Script Analysis & Coverage

Great value and GUARANTEED to improve your screenplay or teleplay

FAQ: Reel Author's Script Analysis & Coverage

Do I maintain copyright of my screenplay?

Yes, absolutely.

Your order grants no power over your script to Reel Authors or your allocated reader.

Your script is your material, you maintain all rights and copyright.

Who are our readers?

We are highly selective on who we take on.

Unlike many other analysis/coverage providers, we require that our readers also be seasoned screenwriters – our minimum requirement is that they have 5+ years industry experience and have sold or optioned at least one screenplay or teleplay.

Consequently we employ a small but highly dedicated team.

Our guarantee

Due to the experience our reader will bring to bear on your script, we guarantee their analysis can make it better.

Our analysis/coverage report and scorecard will highlight areas in which your screenplay or teleplay can be improved.

If your analyst cannot suggest ways to improve your script, we'll refund your entire fee.

What happens to my script?

On submission, your script will be allocated to an experienced reader who enjoys the respective genre.

At Reel Authors we guarantee your script will be read by someone who has experience with and enjoys its genre. We know of no other analysis/coverage service that does this.

Your script will be read from FADE IN to FADE OUT and assessed.

The analysis/coverage report will give you guidance as to how your script can be improved. We have provided analysis/coverage for 1000+ screenplays and teleplays - we have always been able to provide guidance on how a particular script can be improved.

Your feedback will detail the aspects of your script the reader liked, and the aspects that need additional work.

Your analyst will assess every aspect of your script, including:

How much analysis/coverage will I receive?

Can I see a sample of your analysis/coverage?

Of course. Click below for samples:

Can I see a sample of the scorecard?

To prevent competitors from using our scorecard, we do not offer samples on this site.

With every Premium Coverage (and above) analysis/coverage order, the 50+ element scorecard will also be dispatched.

When will I receive my analysis/coverage?

Your analysis/coverage (and scorecard for Premium Coverage and above orders) will be emailed to you within ten days - often sooner: our average dispatch time is 4 to 6 days after submission.

Do entrants have to reside in America?

No, we accept scripts from around the world but please ensure your script is in English.

Can I resubmit?

After you have received your analysis/coverage you are welcome to submit a revised script. You can elect to have the same reader as before (if available), or a new reader.

To pay for the re-reading and fresh coverage report, a new order fee will be required.

Is a title page needed?

Yes, please include a title page with the script name, author(s) name(s) and contact email address(s).

I hear the team 'spec' script a lot. What is a spec script?

A spec script, also known as a speculative script, is a non-commissioned script, typically a screenplay (feature film) or teleplay (TV pilot or episode).

Writers pen spec screenplays and teleplays to gain agent or manager representation, win screenwriting contests or sell their work.

What formats are accepted?

We only accept scripts in Adobe PDF format. Please ensure your script conforms to the industry standard for spec screenplays, teleplays or shorts.

E.g. the font must be 12-point Courier, Courier New or Courier Final Draft; line spacing, formatting etc must follow the industry norm.

We highly recommend the use of professional screenwriting software such as the open source (excellent and free!) Celtx or the industry-standard (but costly) Final Draft.

Numerous screenplay and teleplay format guides are available on the web. Three excellent ones are included below:

Nicholl Fellowship screenplay format guide

Joe's Guide to a professional looking screenplay

Teleplay format guide by Matt Carless (95% applicable to screenplays)

Can I submit my screenplay in Microsoft Word or text file format?

No. Please convert your script to PDF format using for example the Save As PDF option in newer versions of Microsoft Word or a Print to PDF function (such as Primo PDF, which is available for free).

Or use the excellent free file conversion website: ZamZar

Scripts in Microsoft Word and text file format are unlikely to fully abide by the format standards for spec screenplays.

We highly recommend you switch to professional screenwriting software such as the excellent (and free!) Celtx.

How do I pay?

We use Paypal for secure payment processing. However you do not need a Paypal account.

You can pay using your Paypal account or your credit or debit card (no Paypal account is necessary).

Does your site record my payment details (credit card etc)?

Absolutely not. All payments are handled through Paypal’s secure payment gateway.

I’m worried about someone stealing my idea?

This is very rare in Hollywood. Our readers will not steal your idea.

The recommended industry practice is for writers to register their new screenplay's or teleplay's with either the Writers Guild of America or the Library of Congress US Copyright office.

Use of your contact details

We will only use your contact details for communication regarding your order. Your details will not be sold or given to any other parties.
